Hallelujah! I pray that the God of peace will be with each and every one of you! Autumn is now in full swing, and I hope you are all staying healthy as the seasons change.

Yesterday, I received a phone call from a North Korean woman rescued by Caleb Mission who is currently staying at Hanawon. She called to express her gratitude for being rescued through Caleb Mission. She called to express her gratitude for being rescued through Caleb Mission.

She told me that she had recently visited Haenam, a beautiful coastal town at the southern tip of South Korea, probably along with other North Korean escapees from Hanawon.

As she traveled by train, enjoying the beautiful autumn scenery, and later stood by the ocean, she began to cry uncontrollably.

She told me what she had realized at that moment:

โ€œI can ride a train and stand here by the ocean without being afraid of anyone. This is what it means to be free. I am finally free.โ€

For 22 years, she lived in China without legal identification, constantly fearing arrest and forced repatriation to North Korea, where she could face brutal punishment, torture, or even death. She could hardly leave her home, and even when she did, she always returned filled with fear and anxiety.

But on that trip to Haenam, after 22 long years of living in fear, she finally experienced what freedom truly meant.

She called me and said,

โ€œPastor, thank you so much. I am so grateful that I can finally understand what freedom really means. More than anything, I am thankful that I have come to believe in Jesus and have found freedom. And now, I can even live freely in this world without constantly being afraid.

I have decided that I will definitely move to Cheonan, where your church is located. I may not have money to give, but even if all I can do is clean the church and mop the floors, I want to serve God. He has placed this desire in my heart, and I truly want to come and serve at your church.โ€

As I listened to her, tears welled up in my eyes. Rescuing North Korean escapees and helping them rebuild their lives is an incredibly difficult ministry. There are many times when, from a worldly perspective, we see little visible fruit despite all the challenges and sacrifices.

But then, one precious person reaches out with a heart full of gratitude and love.

And as I watch more and more North Korean escapees settle into their new lives and become part of our church community, my heart is filled with thanksgiving.

Hearing this sister say that she wants to become part of our church family and serve alongside us in God's Kingdom work and the mission to North Korea was deeply moving.

As more North Korean escapees join our community, we are realizing how much more space we need to welcome and care for them. Thatโ€™s why we added a mobile home today, and as our community continues to grow, we will need even more space.

I believe that rescuing precious lives, sharing the Gospel, and working toward the evangelization and reunification of the Korean Peninsula are things that bring great joy to God's heart.

And none of this would be possible without your faithful prayers, intercession, love, and sacrificial support. I am always deeply grateful for each one of you.

Please continue to pray that our North Korean brothers and sisters, who have endured so much pain and suffering, will find healing, comfort, and a true sense of belonging here in our community. Thank you so much for walking alongside us in this ministry. God bless you all!

In Christโ€™s love,

Pastor Seungeun Kim
