Hallelujah! I pray that the peace of God will be with you.
By God's grace and through your faithful prayers, I safely returned to Korea after completing my ministry trip to the United States. I am now back in our North Korean escapees community, spending time with the escapees and seeing how they have been caring for the farm and community while I was away. Thank you sincerely for your prayers, encouragement, and support throughout my journey in America.
On the very day I arrived, a North Korean escapee woman came to see me. She had written me a letter and shared her story. What I heard deeply broke my heart.
During North Korea's famine in the 1990s, this woman lost twelve relatives to starvation, including her parents, siblings, husband, and children. Thirty years ago, she escaped to China with her younger brother and sister, who were among the only surviving members of her family. Tragically, her brother later disappeared and is presumed to have died of starvation.
Recently, by God's grace, she miraculously learned that her younger sister was still alive after thirty years. During those years, her sister had been sold into a forced marriage in China. When they were finally able to reconnect, her sister cried out, begging, "Please get me out of this living hell in China and bring me to freedom.โ
For decades, this woman has carried the trauma of losing nearly her entire family. After finally finding her sister, she was devastated to realize that she had no way to rescue her. Having followed Caleb Mission's rescue work for many years, she rushed to meet me as soon as she heard I had returned to Korea. Through tears, she shared her story and pleaded for help.
Although I have heard many tragic stories through years of involvement in North Korean ministry, hearing about a family that lost twelve loved ones to starvation and seeing only two sisters remain alive was especially heartbreaking.
One sister remains trapped in China, while the other lives in South Korea. Though separated by borders, they continue longing for one another. This is the painful reality of a divided Korean people.
Regardless of North or South, we are one people. As followers of Jesus Christ, should we not embrace and walk alongside those who carry such deep wounds and suffering?
We will do everything we can to help rescue this sister.
At the same time, I am grateful to share that while I was in the United States, three North Korean escapees were successfully rescued and are now receiving discipleship and biblical training at our Southeast Asia Safe House.
Through Caleb Mission, God continues to save lives. More than that, He is planting the Gospel into those lives and raising up future leaders for North Korean missions.
For the sake of even one soul, I have been willing to travel across the world wherever God opens a door. By His grace, many lives have been rescued. While passion plays a role, I believe these miracles are ultimately the result of God's faithfulness and the prayers, generosity, and partnership of supporters like you.
God is allowing us to witness a harvest from the seeds that have been planted.
There is much work to be done on earth, but we must continue investing in eternal things. Please continue praying for the restoration of North Korea and for God's Kingdom to advance among the Korean people.
It is said that North Korea has approximately 38,000 monuments and idols dedicated to the Kim regime. Today, there are approximately 35,000 North Korean escapees living in South Korea. If another 3,000 escapees arrive in the future, there will be as many North Korean escapees in South Korea as there are monuments and idols dedicated to the Kim regime in the North.
My prayer is that God would raise up these escapees as Gospel workers and spiritual leaders. I pray that one day, where 38,000 idols now stand, 38,000 churches will rise throughout North Korea. May North Korean escapees become instruments of revival, carrying the Gospel back to their homeland and helping establish thriving churches across the nation.
Until that day, please continue praying and partnering with us. Your prayers truly make a difference.
Please pray for our escapees community, for those currently receiving training in Southeast Asia, and for those who will soon begin their journey out of China.
May God's grace and blessings be with you. Thank you.
In Christโs love and service,Pastor Seungeun Kim
